Role of BLMK CCG

Who we are and what we do

NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (BLMK CCG) was formed on 1 April 2021 following the merger of Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BCCG), Luton Clinical Commissioning Group (LCCG) and Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (MKCCG). We are responsible for planning and buying (or ‘commissioning’) NHS-funded healthcare for the almost 1 million people living in BLMK.

The creation of the single CCG gives us a real opportunity to meet the wider healthcare needs of our communities, utilising the greater joint working across health and social care that has happened in response to the Covid pandemic.

The Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) region operates as an Integrated Care System (ICS) where NHS organisations, including BLMK CCG, work in partnership with local councils and other partners including the voluntary sector to work together to improve the health and wellbeing of you, your family and community. We engage with local people and stakeholders throughout our work. We know how important it is to retain a local focus and strong clinical voice in each place, and we are committed to this as we look forward towards a more integrated future within the BLMK ICS.

As a single CCG we will continue to work more closely than ever before with our NHS Trusts, local authorities and other system partners, to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for the residents of Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes and the communities we serve.

We are committed to delivering the highest-quality healthcare and services as close to where you live as possible, while making sure we achieve the best value for money.

To do that, the CCGs have contracts with a number of different providers including hospitals, community and mental health trusts, ambulance trusts and care homes, as well as other organisations which provide treatment and healthcare.

Clinically-led

Our CCG is clinically led, which means a Governing Body consisting of GPs, Lay Members and Executive Directors leads the organisation.

During the transitional period to become part of the statutory BLMK ICS by April 2022, we also have a Transitional ICS/CCG Integrated Leadership Team.

Dr Sarah Whiteman, a Bedfordshire resident and Milton Keynes GP, is Chair of the Governing Body and the Transitional Leadership Team.

Felicity Cox is Accountable Officer for the BLMK CCG and Executive Lead for BLMK Integrated Care System.
