COVID -19 Urgent Eye care Service (CUES)

We would like to inform you that the COVID -19 Urgent Eye care Service (CUES service) has now been launched in Milton Keynes.

This service is commissioned by Milton Keynes CCG and is provided by local optical practices via the optometry federation, Primary Eye care Services Ltd (PES) with the support of Buckinghamshire Local Optical Committee. It is for all patients registered with a Milton Keynes CCG GP practice.

The primary aim of this service is to ensure people can access urgent eye care within primary care, utilising the established trained workforce in optical practices. This is essential to reduce demand on primary care and hospital eye services.

Further details on the new service are available by accessing the following documents:

Choice of provider

A chosen provider may be indicated on the referral form. Providers holding a contract with MK CCG to provide services (as at November 2019) include:

Milton Keynes University Hospital (default provider)
Ramsay Blakelands
Bedford Hospital
Stoke Mandeville Hospital
Northampton General Hospital
Patients may exercise their right of choice to be referred to another provider, but that provider must be listed on the NHS electronic referral service (e-RS). To check if a hospital or clinic is listed, please email [email protected]

Cataract referrals for Milton Keynes registered patients should never be sent directly to the hospital or clinic even when the patient has indicated a choice. The referral should instead be sent to the Milton Keynes SPA service for clinical triage and booking.

The MK CARS Scheme will close on 30th June 2020.

After this date, cataract referrals should be made on the usual GOS18 referral form and sent to the SPA Service Provider (MK RMS) in the usual way.

Please do not claim for assessments carried out after 30th June 2020 as these will not be approved and all invoices relating to activity after the closure date will be returned to the practice who issued the invoice.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email the CCG on [email protected]

The contract closure letter can be found here.
